These days, something delicious was cooking at Public Open University Čakovec. We were visited by students from Josip Slavenski Grammar School Čakovec, who took part in an educational culinary workshop accompanied by their teachers, Iva Golenko and Marta Kramar Burela.
During the workshop, the students tested their skills in preparing traditional Međimurje dishes. They were guided through the preparation process by our master chef, Anica Naranđa, who showed them how well-known local dishes can be prepared with respect for tradition, but also with a touch of a contemporary approach.
The workshop focused on two true Međimurje classics: trganci with minced lard and sour cream, and white zlevanjka.
To prepare the trganci, the students first kneaded the dough. After the dough had rested briefly, they tore it into smaller pieces and cooked it. Finally, they prepared a sauce made from minced lard and sour cream, which gave this traditional dish a special juiciness and richness of flavour.
For the white zlevanjka, the students mixed the ingredients for the batter and placed it in a baking dish. They then added sour cream on top, and after baking, served the zlevanjka with strawberries, blueberries, and vanilla ice cream.
At the end of the workshop, everyone tasted the dishes they had prepared together. The students concluded that they were very good at cooking, especially when working as a team. The workshop showed that cooking is not only a useful life skill, but also an excellent way to connect, cooperate, and learn through practical work.
We would like to thank the students of Josip Slavenski Grammar School Čakovec and their teachers for visiting us, actively participating, and sharing this pleasant experience with us. We look forward to future culinary gatherings.
We also invite other schools to contact us if they are interested in organising similar educational culinary workshops. The doors of our kitchen are open to you!
