About
The RENEW – Retirees’ Engagement in New Media and Environmental Wisdom project focuses on actively involving retirees (60+) in innovative adult education by connecting digital and green skills. Retirees are particularly exposed to digital exclusion, social isolation and reduced participation in community life, while at the same time holding valuable knowledge about sustainable household practices that rarely finds its way into contemporary digital formats.
The project responds to this need by combining digital media training with practical environmental education. Participants learn to record, edit and publish podcasts while gaining knowledge about separating and reducing household waste, composting and reducing food waste. The methodology is adapted to older learners – work takes place in small groups, with step-by-step guidance and hands-on activities, with equipment provided and support for those with lower digital confidence.
The main project results are a jointly developed digital-green curriculum for older learners, a methodological package and handbook for podcast production, 15 episodes of the “Tea-Time With…” podcast (five per country) created by the retirees themselves, the “Eco-Wisdom at Home” package with a waste separation guide, a composting handbook and a food waste reduction handbook, intergenerational workshops in each partner country, a website with openly available materials, and one open-access expert paper for adult education staff. Materials are produced in the languages of all partners.
