Today, we celebrate World Photography Day, and Public Open University Čakovec contributes to the development of high-quality photography skills through its Digital Photography Shooting and Editing programme.
In recent days, participants in the Digital Photography programme took part in a field-based learning activity in neighbouring Slovenia, further developing their photographic knowledge through a landscape photography exercise. During the day, they visited the unique Peričnik Waterfall, behind which visitors can walk, Lake Bled and its scenic viewpoint, Lake Jasna with the peaks of the Julian Alps in the background, and photographed the summits of the well-known Martuljek Group.
The activity was carefully prepared in advance through a detailed assessment of lighting conditions, the Sun’s position, and photographers’ access to each location. This enabled the participants to follow a precise schedule and photograph the planned locations under ideal conditions. Field-based learning encompasses every aspect of photography: preparation, familiarity with equipment, time spent in the field, and photographing with a range of techniques.
This type of teaching not only provides first-hand learning experiences, but also allows participants who share a common love of photography to get to know one another and connect. It fosters future acquaintances, friendships and even photographic partnerships.
The outcome of this field activity was somewhat paradoxical: tired after a full day of driving and walking, yet full of enthusiasm and energy for more! The conclusion was clear: “We want more!”
