Our week in Brussels was not only about meeting European decision-makers. It was also a great opportunity to connect with organisations working directly in adult education and media literacy, exchange experiences and explore how SMART AGE can contribute to these fields.

Learning from the European adult education community

We were very happy to meet Raffaela Kihrer, General Secretary of the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA). We also had the opportunity to participate in an EAEA workshop together with adult education organisations and professionals from across Europe.

The workshop provided valuable insights into the role of adult education today and created space for exchange about the challenges and opportunities facing the sector. It was a great opportunity for the SMART AGE team to learn from others and discuss why media literacy should be an important part of adult education – including for older learners.

Thank you to EAEA for the opportunity and for the inspiring exchange!

Media literacy and citizenship

We also visited EAVI – Media Literacy for Citizenship, where we discussed the role that European projects can play in strengthening media literacy and explored ideas for further cooperation.

We presented the SMART AGE methodology and discussed the importance of ensuring that seniors are included in media literacy efforts. As digital technologies, AI and new information environments continue to change rapidly, media literacy needs to reach all generations.

The exchange also gave us the opportunity to brainstorm how European cooperation and projects can contribute even further to this field.

Thank you to EAVI for hosting us and for the inspiring discussion!

More European connections

Our Croatian partners also used their time in Brussels to meet with MLA – Media & Learning Association, where they discussed the importance of making the tools practical, relevant and useful to our target audiences to avoid it being purely theoretical.

Thank you to MLA for your insightful reflections and impactful advice!

These meetings are an important part of SMART AGE: by connecting with organisations and experts beyond our own partnership, we can learn, exchange and build new alliances that strengthen the project’s impact.
