About
The Give Them a Chance (GEM) project was implemented by partners from Slovenia, Hungary, and Croatia to develop a training program for teachers working with Roma adults in various educational and vocational programs. The project addressed challenges like high dropout rates among Roma adults, poor academic achievement, and lack of teacher training on working with minorities. Through extensive research and needs analysis, the partners created a pilot training program to build teacher competencies for working effectively with adult Roma students. The program provided knowledge on teaching vulnerable groups and considering their social and linguistic needs. Roma participants also created a manifesto describing their ideal learning environment. Beyond developing teacher skills, the project aimed to empower Roma students and increase their success in formal and informal education. With their shared history and partnerships predating the project, the organizations were committed to qualifying teachers and uplifting the Roma community through education. Implementing this cooperative initiative allowed the partners to pool their knowledge and experience for the benefit of Roma adults and the teachers working with them.
