This year, Public Open University Čakovec once again marked Lifelong Learning Week with a wide range of free workshops and lectures for members of the public, school pupils and university students.

Lifelong Learning Fair

The week was launched with the Lifelong Learning Fair, held on Saturday, 26 September, at Franjevački trg in Čakovec. Alongside Public Open University Čakovec, the following organisations presented their programmes and services to the public: Čakovec School of Economics and Trade, the Croatian Employment Service – Čakovec Regional Office, CISOK, Čakovec Secondary School – Meditrina, Metalska jezgra Čakovec, Genesis, the Centre for Education and POU Novak. We thank all exhibitors for their cooperation.

Workshops and Lectures for the Public

The workshop programme began on 29 September with two culinary workshops led by guest chef Melkior Bašić.

The creative programme opened with “Crochet for Beginners”, led by Marijana Haman (Mari-story), where participants learnt basic crochet techniques. Certified aromatherapist Ivana Stilinović led an aromatherapy cosmetics workshop entitled “Golden Autumn Skincare”, during which participants made a golden dry body oil and hand cream.

In his workshop “Synesthesia of Creativity: Who Is the Artist Here?”, Ivica Jeđud demonstrated how mobile phones can turn touch into sound, written words into musical notes and drawings into music. Meanwhile, Andreja Modrinjak introduced participants to sewing and dry needle felting in her FeltBag Art workshop.

Tatjana Žižek, a specialist in school and preschool psychology, focused on wellbeing with her lecture “Stress: Understand It, Accept It, Manage It”. Iva Mihalic Krčmar from Putoholičari shared tips on travelling on a budget in her lecture “How to Travel Cheaply”.

Workshops for School Pupils and University Students

Part of the programme was designed specifically for school pupils and university students. A media literacy workshop for pupils from Čakovec Secondary School was held at Public Open University Čakovec. The Association of Deaf and Blind People and the Association of Deaf and Hard of Hearing People of Varaždin County organised sign language workshops for pupils from Čakovec Secondary School and Josip Slavenski Grammar School in Čakovec. Ivica Jeđud and Jana Bračko also led the workshop “Vibe Coding for Beginners” at Josip Slavenski Grammar School.

At the Čakovec Department of the Faculty of Teacher Education, Ivica Jeđud delivered two workshops: “Learning with AI” and “Creating with AI – When Teachers Become Creators”.

The programme concluded with the digital photography exhibition “From Click to Art”, showcasing work by participants in the Digital Photography and Image Editing programme.
