The European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA) has published its Grundtvig Award 2026 publication. Since 2003, the EAEA Grundtvig Award – Excellence in Adult Education has recognised innovation and excellence in non-formal adult education. This year’s theme was Resilience and Community-Building. The publication presents all 44 candidates in the transnational and local/regional/national categories.

Two Erasmus+ projects with Public Open University Čakovec as a partner are among them.

HER[AI]TAGE: Preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage and Environmental Knowledge Through AI Technology
The project preserves oral heritage and traditional ecological knowledge connected to the Drava, Mura and Danube rivers through digital storytelling and intergenerational learning. Stories collected from elders became a digital archive, an illustrated story collection with audio, an online exhibit and online courses. The project received a Highly commendable distinction. Partners: Association Kultivator (coordinator), POU Čakovec, Croatian Cultural Society Pomurje (Slovenia) and City Library in Novi Sad (Serbia).

InclusiGardens: Digital and Sustainable Pathways to Social Inclusion through Urban Gardening
The project supports vulnerable urban adults through sustainable living education, urban micro-gardening and community-based learning. Accessible digital resources and gamified learning help participants build green skills and confidence for sustainable everyday action. Partners: Permaculture Association of Slovenia (coordinator), POU Čakovec and EVRgreen Studio (the Netherlands).

This year’s winners are VOLUGRAM in the transnational category and Izmir Citizens’ Assembly for Climate in the local/regional/national category.
