This week we organized another in a series of educational workshops as part of the EUCountry project, this time focused on the traditional art of pottery. The workshop was led by Đurđica Horvat, a recognized master of pottery from Međimurje, who has been cultivating her art for 47 years, continuing the family tradition started by the Lesjak family. Mrs. Horvat is one of only three holders of the cultural property of Traditional Pottery in the area of northwestern Croatia, whose name is entered in the Register of Cultural Property of the Republic of Croatia, and who originates from Međimurje.
The participants of the workshop, members of the Association of Pensioners of the City of Čakovec, had the opportunity to enjoy the interactive experience of working on a potter’s wheel under the mentorship of Mrs. Horvat. Through practical work, the participants made authentic pottery items from clay that they took home as a lasting memory of this experience. In addition to traditional pottery, the participants applied the digital skills acquired in previous workshops by documenting the process of making pottery items using smartphones.
This workshop is part of a wider series of workshops that promote culture and coexistence through various creative and educational activities within the EUCountry project. Although the EUCountry project ends at the end of October, we are happy that the participants of our project activities gained unforgettable experiences that enrich the local community and promote the preservation of cultural heritage, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and the use of technology to enrich lives.
