Today, as part of the third STE(A)M Festival, organised by the Public Institution for the Development of Međimurje County REDEA and EUROPE DIRECT Čakovec, we held the workshop “Art and Creativity in the Age of (Generative) Artificial Intelligence,” designed for the older population.

During the workshop, we covered the basics of generative artificial intelligence and showcased examples of its application in generating textual, visual, and audio materials. We presented the advantages that generative AI brings to creative expression, as well as the challenges that accompany it.

As today is also Europe Day, we took the opportunity to introduce participants to relevant resources from the European Union and the European Commission, such as:

  • The European AI Office
  • The Coordinated Plan on Artificial Intelligence
  • The AI Act
  • The Ethical guidelines on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and data in teaching and learning for educators
  • The Digital Competence Framework for Citizens (DigComp 2.2) and its Appendix 2: “Citizens interacting with AI systems.”

In the practical part of the workshop, we introduced participants to the Berlin-based open-source platform POLLINATIONS.AI, which allows for the simple creation of AI-generated images without the need to create a user profile, with a special emphasis on privacy protection.

We are pleased that we were able to impart knowledge about generative artificial intelligence to our senior learners, and that they were able to immediately apply this knowledge in creating their own AI images.
