Explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) can be fully leveraged in adult education through the first of three accelerated courses developed within the Erasmus+ project HER[AI]TAGE!

This accelerated course provides a comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence, with a special focus on Generative AI (GenAI), and is designed for adult learners and educators. It begins by defining fundamental concepts such as AI, GenAI, Machine Learning (ML), and Natural Language Processing (NLP), explaining their significance in adult education and broader societal contexts, for example, through the HER[AI]TAGE project, which addresses themes of cultural and ecological heritage. The course then explores the practical applications of various AI tools for creating text, images, audio, and video, reflecting the latest developments in the field up to August 2025.

A significant emphasis is placed on the skill of prompt engineering and the crucial role of human oversight in reviewing AI-generated content. In this course, you will explore how AI can be aligned with andragogical principles (the theory of adult learning) to create personalized and engaging learning experiences, and how it can be used to develop diverse educational materials and creative projects.

The course also thoroughly addresses the ethical dimensions of AI, including bias, data privacy, and responsible use, referencing current regulatory frameworks such as the European Union’s AI Act. Participants will develop skills for critically evaluating and verifying AI-generated outputs, for instance, by using frameworks like SIFT. Furthermore, the course covers how AI can foster collaboration, creativity, and community engagement. The final modules focus on data literacy in the age of AI, current trends, and the importance of lifelong learning to adapt to these rapidly evolving technologies.
