The Erasmus+ project “Help to Opportunities” (H2O), in which POU Čakovec participated as a partner, has won the European Innovative Teaching Award in the adult education category!
Led by Ljudska univerza Lendava (Slovenia), the H2O project empowered Roma communities by improving health literacy through inclusive, community-based education. The project trained Roma lay educators, developed tailored educational materials, and built trust in healthcare systems. These efforts have resulted in sustainable, innovative, and transferable solutions that address health inequalities and can be replicated across Europe.
We are extremely pleased to have had the opportunity to participate and, together with all partner organisations, contribute to improving the health literacy of 158 Roma participants and training 40 lay educators. The project promoted inclusion by engaging people with fewer opportunities and created a ripple effect that spread to families, communities, and local services. In total, it reached over 750 people, including educators, NGO representatives, and policymakers. Key results – such as a multilingual curriculum, a mobile app, a board game, and policy recommendations at the EU level – ensure the project’s long-term impact and transferability across Europe.
We look forward to future collaborations and projects because Erasmus+ not only enriches lives and broadens horizons but also makes a real difference in our communities.
