Yesterday, an international conference was held in Panonska vas, Slovenia, as part of the Erasmus+ project “Help to Opportunities” (H2O), aimed at raising the health literacy of Roma.
The organizer of the conference was the partner consortium of the H2O project with the support of the scientific and research association for art EPEKA, the Center for Civil and Human Rights PORADNA, the Office of the Government of the Republic of Slovenia for National Minorities, the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool and the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Slovenia.
As part of the conference, a series of expert lectures, workshops and discussions were held, led by experts in public health, education and social inclusion. Key topics of the conference included the importance of basic health literacy of members of the Roma community for inclusion in the wider social community, innovative approaches to health education, the role of cultural sensitivity in public health initiatives and the impact of education on reducing health differences among Roma.
As part of the conference, a round table was held where representatives of the partner consortium of the H2O project presented their experiences within the project: Božidar Nikolić (Romanipe, Serbia), Anna Orsós (Amrita Obk, Hungary), Simon Sukič (RCMS, Slovenia), Laura Kovač (LU Lendava, Slovenia), Mario Zamuda (POU Čakovec, Croatia), Maria Bo (ICTID Center, Ireland), Rocío García (Inercia Digital, Spain), Ioanna Papathanasiou (Pantepistimio Thessalias, Greece), Jorge Veloso (Previform Ltd., Portugal). The round table was moderated by Dr. sc. Rahela Hojnik Kelenc, director of the Human University in Lendava. The participants of the conference had the opportunity to try their hand at the health literacy game “Healthivity”, which is one of the results of the H2O project.
